The Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day round up

We raised £5,000 for Raising Futures Kenya

It's always amazing how the weather seems to cooperate during the Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day. This year was no exception - the bright sunshine was a sight to behold. However, as is typical with the UK weather, grey clouds loomed in the distance. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic day at Sittingbourne Golf Club in Kent.

It was an exciting day for golf enthusiasts as players from different teams gathered to compete for the coveted Millennium Golf Challenge trophy. The USA team emerged victorious this year, with Ray Seamer leading the way as their captain and scoring an impressive 489 points. The team’s Stableford winners were Ben Hunt, Matthew Hunt, Sonny Merril, and Stephen May, who scored a total of 94 points.

Aside from the main competition, other prizes were also awarded for the longest drive and closest to the flag. Four players even managed to beat the professional in the Beat the Pro competition – Tom Edmonds, Mark Barnard, David Blake, and Maartin Heukshorst.

After the game, the players gathered for a post-round dinner where Jane Keet shared an insight about Raising Futures Kenya and the activities taking place on the ground in Kenya. She also highlighted the value of the Millennium golf day support. The dinner was followed by a raffle and auction, which raised a great amount.

The success of the event was made possible by the generous support of Unit4, ICORP, and Arbonne International.

Congratulations to the USA team and all the winners!

We raised £4,500 for Raising Futures Kenya

There’s something about the annual Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day that seems to bring out the best in the UK weather and this year was no exception. Of course, bright sunshine is normally accompanied by grey clouds and this proved to be the case on Friday at Westerham, Kent.

The individual scratch winner was Gordon O’Malley on 77 and Stableford winners were Derek Mcateer and Jane Keet with 42 points apiece. Other prizes were awarded for the longest drive, closest to the flag and best turned out team.

Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day 2021

Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day

July 5th, 2021

It’s fair to say that the summer of 2021 has been unpredictable weatherwise, so when the annual Millennium Consulting Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day took place last Friday it was hard to know what to expect.

Faversham Golf Club in Kent played host and the event continued the tradition of supporting Raising Futures Kenya (formerly Vision Africa) over the past 16 years.

Heartfelt thanks are due to the loyal support of our many corporate sponsors, the players who took part and the event organisers without whose organisational skills the day would not have run so well.

The weather turned out ideal and with the golf course in good condition, an enjoyable day was had by all. The format was a Ryder Cup style competition with European v USA teams vying once more for the Millennium trophy. With evenly matched teams, this year it was the turn of Europe, captained by Craig Bassingthwaighte and vice-captain Malcolm Coton to emerge as victors.

The 4-ball team prize was won by Ben Hunt, Harry Wallis, Mark Cranefield and Shoaib Laher. Harry Wallis also won the individual stableford prize and the ladies winner was Gwen Finch. The individual scratch score winner was Adam Bassingthwaighte who went round in a creditable 76. Closest to the flag was Roger Lightfoot whilst Harry Wallis extended his winning run by achieving the longest drive.

Covid-19 restrictions meant that the traditional pre and post round presentations/awards could not take place in the normal manner however Andy King of Raising Futures Kenya had recorded a video which brought us up to date with what has been happening in Kenya during this difficult Covid period. It is worth taking a few minutes to watch it as it highlights the value of the financial contribution we make each year from our golf day.

£3,000 was raised and we look forward to hearing from Raising Futures Kenya how the funds are used when we get together next year.

Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day 2019

Millennium Raising Futures Kenya Golf Day

September 13th, 2019

It was a sun-filled September day in Westerham when the Millennium “Raising Futures Kenya” golf day took place. The event was well supported by the payers and special guest, former World Light heavyweight Boxing Champion John Conteh, accompanied by his son James, adding sporting pedigree, physical presence and golfing prowess.

There were prizes aplenty with the European team once more emerging victorious in the Stableford overall team event. Other winners included William Hill – led by Steve Gant – who won the 4 ball Stableford prize.

The individual scratch score prize was won by Joe Jezzard of Osella Technology with a score of 75, closely followed by Colin Stansbury of Avalara with 76.

The longest drive was won by Jono Rawlings of Arthur J Gallagher, with Joe Jezzard also winning the nearest the flag prize.

Following the golf and post round dinner, a short presentation was provided by Andy King, Board of Trustees Chair at Raising Futures Kenya, who shared news from around how the funds raised at the 2018 golf event were put to good use. Tales of children helped and their subsequent journeys brought to life the tangible outcome arising from the funds previously raised. Overall the golf day raised £2,000 on the day, a sum which will be put to good use by the Raising Futures Kenya team.

Millennium Consulting CEO Phil Keet expressed his thanks to the corporate sponsors, including Avalara, Bang and Olufsen and Arbonne International as well as John Conteh and the players who took part. Phil will be visiting Kenya in 2020 to gain first-hand insight into the work being carried out on the ground by Raising Futures Kenya and will provide an update for the players taking part at the 2020 event.

If you are interested in taking part in 2020 then please refer to our events page for information. Rumour has it that the event may be taking place at the illustrious Sunningdale course….
