Which SunSystems version are you running and is it still supported?

If you're currently running an on-premise version of SunSystems, it's important to understand where your system sits in the product lifecycle and what that means for your business.

Which SunSystems versions are currently supported?

• SunSystems Cloud – Infor's fully managed Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution
• SunSystems 6.4 On-Premise – The latest supported on-premise release

There is also a SunSystems 6.4 Hybrid deployment. This combines a traditional on-premise SunSystems installation with selected cloud-based Infor services.

The hybrid approach was introduced following the retirement of several on-premise Infor technologies, including components such as Infor OS and ION. By moving these services into the cloud while keeping the core SunSystems application on-premise, organisations can benefit from much of the additional functionality available in the cloud without fully migrating their ERP system.

For many businesses, this provides around 80% of the additional capability while allowing them to continue running their existing on-premise environment.

What happened to the older versions?

Legacy versions, including SunSystems 6.3, 6.2 and 6.1, have now moved to Sustaining Maintenance under Infor's extended maintenance lifecycle (2025). Earlier releases, such as 5.4 and 5.3, have also transitioned to Sustaining Maintenance.

Although Infor  still provide basic support if you log a call, these versions no longer receive:

• Software patches
• Bug fixes
• Maintenance releases
• Product enhancements

This means that if you encounter an issue, it's unlikely that a permanent software fix will be developed.

It is important to note that Infor does not classify products as "end of life" while customers continue to pay for maintenance. Instead, these versions move to a different stage of the product lifecycle, where the level of maintenance and support changes rather than ending altogether.

SunSystems and Microsoft

Another important consideration is the technology underneath your ERP system. Many older SunSystems versions rely on versions of Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server that are themselves approaching, or have already reached, end of support.

For example:

• SunSystems 6.2 was commonly deployed on Windows Server 2012, which is already out of Microsoft support
• SunSystems 6.3 can run on Windows Server 2019, giving it a little more lifespan
• SunSystems 4.4.2 surprisingly supports newer Microsoft platforms such as Windows Server 2022 and SQL Server 2022, despite being an older application

While the underlying operating system may still be supported, the SunSystems application itself is not. Running unsupported software increases operational and security risk over time.

Why consider moving to SunSystems Cloud?

Beyond remaining on a fully supported platform, one of the biggest advantages of SunSystems Cloud is the licensing model.

Traditional on-premise installations are licensed by module and user.

Many organisations only licensed the core modules, typically:

• Ledger Accounting
• Multi-Currency

Adding modules such as:

• Sales Order Processing
• Purchase Order Processing
• Fixed Assets

often meant purchasing licences for every user, even if only one or two people needed access. For smaller organisations, this often made additional functionality difficult to justify.

With SunSystems Cloud, all core modules are included within your subscription. This opens up opportunities to take advantage of functionality that may previously have been too expensive to implement.

For example, organisations can:

• Register and control purchase invoices using Purchase Order Processing
• Use Sales Order Processing for low-volume invoicing without significant additional licensing costs
• Introduce more structured financial processes without investing in additional user licences

For many businesses, this allows them to gain far more value from their ERP system than was practical with their legacy on-premise deployment.
